Interprofessional Spiritual Care Training
for Senior Care Providers
Working with colleagues Sara Paasche-Orlow and Mary Martha Thiel at Hebrew SeniorLife (HSL), we are transitioning the spiritual care generalist workshop developed by the Boston Children’s Hospital’s Institute for Professionalism & Ethical Practice (IPEP) for geriatrics practitioners. We are developing the materials required to train “spiritual generalists” for geriatric caregivers and will train 75 caregivers in an interprofessional setting. These caregivers will then be poised to deliver care to the more than 3,000 seniors receiving long-term care at HSL. We will write an article about the training and its effects and are collaborating with a colleague skilled in distance learning to think about how to deliver this training online to geriatric clinicians outside of the greater Boston area.
